Calabria on Wednesday called for a national state of emergency to be declared over an ongoing and severe drought in the southern region.
The Region of Calabria is asking the government for "recognition of the state of national emergency in relation to the serious water deficit in the potable water sector in the territories of the metropolitan city of Reggio Calabria, the Province of Crotone and some municipalities in the Province of Cosenza", the regional executive said after centre-right Governor Roberto Occhiuto's proposal was approved.
